Confrey Root, Symphytum officinale
- Externally, comfrey fomentations has been used to treat sprains, swellings, and bruises, as well as boils, abscesses and gangrenous ulcers. The constituent responsible for comfrey’s wound-healing power is known as allantoin, which stimulates tissue repair and cell proliferation. *While comfrey’s efficacy as a topical treatment is generally well accepted, its internal use is not. Do your own research to determine if you should take Comfrey internally.
- The boiled roots yield a sticky paste that dries hard, and it has been used to set bandages. Simply spread it on the bandage, and then wrap the wound. Use comfrey root in sachets for protection while traveling, and to keep your lover faithful while you are gone.
